2. Marine Cloud Brightening
The right sprayed distribution in the right place: evaluating marine cloud brightening sprayed distributions by approximating a Lagrangian cloud model
Zach Rowland
To effectively implement marine cloud brightening (MCB) we need to know both the most suitable conditions under which to spray and the sprayed distributions which produce the most effective brightening. These two considerations are dependent on each other and require detailed simulations of cloud microphysics to be accurately evaluated. Given the range of possible meteorological conditions and different spraying scenarios, a complete evaluation of these considerations implies excessive computing cost and time to be of practical use for informing the development of MCB sprayer hardware.
To address this, we have developed a fast approximation of a highly detailed Lagrangian cloud model, capable of emulating MCB-relevant variables for a wide range of possible spraying scenarios and sprayed distributions. We apply this model to comprehensively evaluate the performance of different sprayed distributions. The results of this analysis provide insights for the development of MCB sprayer hardware and deployment strategies from the perspective of brightening efficiency.
